ABILITIES
Gen's a completely feral viscet; she has no obsessive fixation towards human-like concepts (i.e. money) like some viscets, but she does understand its importance and influence. She does write for a living to hold leverage in the human world, however. She does enjoy writing gritty fiction and fantasy, but she also writes about her ecology exploits. Her best interest is to protect the Osa Peninsula, so she's also an ecologist and works alongside other humans and viscets who protect other ecosystems and national/international parks.
She does have actual innate magic, but its orgins are unknown to her. She does remember how her mother could make others pass over her or make certain things seem like they didn't exist at all. Her father had an unnatural green thumb and could seem to grow almost anything. But, just like Gen, they mostly used these little talents in their jobs. While subtle, it can be very powerful and useful for her. Gen's "magic" of persuasion works on a more physical level: it feeds off of internal doubt, monologue, and decisions and takes it to the next level. In doing so, she can plant thoughts into other people's head to make them do one thing instead of another. She's able to get her way very easily with this talent. However, this never seems to work with creatures who are decisive and steel-minded by design. Her little power works best on weak minded people and in crowds. Even if she can't convince the more stubborn people, the bandwagon and crowd effect usually does the job for her.
There's absolutely no outwardly indication that she even holds this little talent, so she disguises it as a personality trait. And, knowing Gen, it may have evolved to be just that.
Gen's home is in the Corcovado National Park in Costa Rica. She's currently the only living viscet in the region who is native to said region. Her family can be traced back for generations living in the forest, but she's the last one left. For now.
She's the dominant predator in the park, even over the jaguar. Scientists in the past few years feared her effect on the jaguars and predators but soon realized that while she competes with the jaguars, they come to a sort of agreement in a strange way. Her presence helps to stabilize the population by keeping the jaguars and other large predators away from humans. She holds dominion over the region on an instinctual level. That, and since she can communicate with both the humans and the predators, she keeps the balance in her own unique way. Since it's also her home, she continuously raises awareness for the national park to keep it protected on a federal level.
Spanish is her first language, but she developed her English with no strong accent in order to be taken more seriously by visitors, humans, and other viscets. She hasn't stumbled over a word due to a lapse in memory for years now, and plans to keep it that way.
